10 Los Angeles County Areas With The Highest Average COVID-19 Cases

Los Angeles Public Health has identified the 10 county communities with the highest 14-day average of positive COVID-19 cases.

The average takes into account not only the total number of positive cases, but also an adjusted percentage per 100,000 inhabitants of the area, from October 24 to November 6. The Los Angeles communities with the highest COVID-19 cases were also required to have a population of at least 20,000.

Lancaster topped the list, with 338 positive COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population and 6,492 overall cases.

Downtown LA had the highest number of COVID-19 cases on the list with a total of 49,773 positive cases, but the average of 288 cases per 100,000 residents put them in 6th place on the list.

The downtown ranking comes despite the community being 89% vaccinated.

“While these numbers have increased slightly each week, overall, only 1.3% of fully vaccinated people in LA County have tested positive,” Barbara Ferrer, director of public health, said in the briefing. “We continue to add more people who are fully vaccinated and we also continue to see slightly higher numbers of people who are fully vaccinated with an infection.”
