LOS ANGELES – An officer was shot near a police station in Los Angeles’ historic South Central neighborhood Thursday morning, and a young teenager is suspected of being in the attack. according to a local news station.
The shooting was reported shortly after 5 a.m. near the East 34 intersectionth Street and South Central Avenue, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Lizeth Lomeli said.
The officer was conscious and breathing as he was transported to a local hospital after the shooting, Lomeli said.
Police established a large perimeter around the area during the search for the gunman.
The alleged shooter has been detained, Lomeli said.
According to FOX 11, the officer was driving to work at LAPD Newton Station in a van when he sustained a head injury, and police detained a 14-year-old boy who was in possession of a weapon.
