MANILA, Philippines – Alex Eala made up for her early singles exit as she and partner Oksana Selekhmeteva of Russia advanced to the quarter-finals of the women’s doubles at Roland Garros on Tuesday night.

Eala and Selekhmeteva beat Belgium’s Sofia Costoulas and Finland’s Laura Hieteranta, 6-3, 6-1, in the second round.

Together, they will try to qualify for Final 8 when they face the winners between Barbara Palikova (Czech Republic) / Annabelle Xu (Canada) and Petra Marcinco (Croatia) / Natalia Szabanin (Hungary) who play on Wednesday night.

Eala and Selekhmeteva, who reached the final of the W25 Platja D’Aro last month, are the seeds of the competition.

They broke out in the second round with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Evialina Laskevich of Belarus and Alina Shecherbinina of Russia.

Swan bowed out of the singles contest following a surprise loss of 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-1 to Matilda Mutavdzic of Great Britain last Monday.

But the 16-year-old Filipino star is hoping to clinch her second women’s Grand Slam doubles title after the Australian Open 2020 with Priska Nugroho from Indonesia.
