MANILA, Philippines – Carlos Yulo’s preparation for the Tokyo Olympics received a welcome boost after winning bronze at the 2021 Apparatus Championships in Japan.

Yulo collected 14.966 points to reach the podium in the parallel bars event.

Hometown bet Yusuke Tanaka, who is the reigning Olympic champion, and Kaito Sugimoto tied for gold with 15.400 similar points.

“What a blessing! Being able to play with the best is already a feat for me,” Yulo wrote on his Instagram.

“It was a pretty good performance… but unfortunately I didn’t reach my personal goal. I will definitely use this experience to improve my skills for future events.

The 21-year-old world champion is among 10 Filipinos already qualified for next month’s Games.
