NBCSports Northwest to bow to Trail Blazers start

NBCSports Northwest will cease broadcasting on September 30, a direct result of the Portland Trail Blazers sign a four year broadcast agreement with the competitor ROOT Sports. NBCSports North West. The network has been the Blazers’ broadcast partner since its inception in 2007. It was created (as Comcast SportsNet Northwest) to fill the void left by Fox Sports Networks when they and the team failed to renew their broadcast contract after the 2006-07 NBA season. Now, as the Blazers leave the network, the network itself will be leaving the airwaves.

John Tierney of KGW News tweeted the announcement, according to an article on the new contract which clearly explained the situation:

According to a source with direct knowledge of the situation, NBC Sports Northwest will cease broadcasting on September 30. The source said the company is keen to continue its partnership with the Blazers and is actively pursuing rights renewal. NBC Sports Northwest staff will be affected, the source said.
