MANILA, Philippines — Beau Belga, the great man of rain or shine, knows he must have shed the extra pounds if he is to achieve longevity in PBA.

In an interview with sports show The Chasedown, the 12-year veteran said he has so far lost 30 pounds since he started monitoring his weight a few seasons ago.

The 6-foot-4 tall man said he now weighs 260 pounds, which is his ideal playing weight.

“Every year young players come in. Of course when you can’t keep up your career will end quickly,” Belga said in the Filipino.

“In PBA, the healthier you are, the more you maintain your condition, the longer you will stay. That’s what I thought about and of course it’s a job. I want to stay here a little longer.

Belga has always been a big beefy and his six-year partnership with his former teammate JR Quiñahan has earned them the nickname “Extra Rice Inc”. because of their weight.

Quiñahan, however, has since grown slimmer and is now one of NLEX’s most beloved veterans.

“I weighed around 290 pounds before, I looked like a wrestler, but I worked my weight little by little,” Belga said. “I didn’t lose everything all at once because I don’t know how my body would react.”

Belga said he didn’t change his diet much and always ate what he wanted, but he made sure to work even harder.

“I always eat what I want, but at the same time I go to the gym and I burn everything,” Belga said. “I’m doing this because I have a career to manage. “
