Seattle Mariners buy Jake Bauers from Cleveland Indians

the Seattle sailors acquired first baseman Jake Bauers from Cleveland Indians for a player to be named or cash considerations, this was announced on Thursday.

Bauers, who had been nominated for assignment by Cleveland, started 25 of the 43 games he has appeared in for the Indians this season, hitting .190 with 2 homers and 6 RBIs.

He was given the starting post from Cleveland despite being dominated by Bobby bradley in training camp because he ran out of options in the minor leagues. Bradley was recalled.

Bauers is in the Mariners’ lineup for Thursday’s game in Detroit, and will return to Cleveland on Friday when Seattle opens a three-game series.

In three major league seasons, Bauers is averaging .211 with 25 homers and 97 RBIs. He did not play for the Indians in 2020, spending the abridged season at the club’s alternative training site.

Bauers, 25, was acquired by Cleveland from Tampa Bay as part of a three-team deal in 2018.

To make room on the roster, the Mariners named the infielder Jack mayfield for assignment.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
