Veteran wide receiver leaves Georgia football program. Dawgs247 learned that super senior Demetris Robertson, entering his sixth season, is considering transferring and has entered the NCAA student-athlete transfer portal.
Robertson spent three years in Athens where he showed flashes but struggled to meet the huge expectations placed on him by his five-star rating in the 2016 class. The Savannah Christian product was the No. 13 overall prospect among the nations. and the # 1 wide receiver according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. He was the No. 3 player in Georgia.
Despite a long-standing relationship with Smart kirbyRobertson initially walked away from the UGA. He picked Cal after National Signing Day in 2016 and had a strong freshman season at Berkeley with 50 catches for 767 yards and seven scores. A sports hernia put him on the sidelines for most of 2017 and he decided to transfer after the season was over.
UGA got him for the second time and he made his Bulldog debut in 2018 against Austin Peay. His first touch was an end around which he took 72 yards for a touchdown. He then ran for 37 extra yards on three carries and didn’t catch a pass. Although this season has been difficult for the quick playmaker, he has chosen to take a team-oriented approach.
“It’s super frustrating not having a take last year as a receiver,” said Robertson in the 2019 season. “But I knew my role. I knew we had guys in front of me and I had to. wait my turn. Now we’re here and I know my role this year, and I have to contribute the best I can to the team I can. “
The 2019 season saw Robertson collect 30 catches for 333 yards and three scores. He also had six carries for 52 yards. A drop in production occurred in 2020 when Robertson caught just 12 passes for 110 yards, but he had three catches for 45 yards in JT Daniels UGA debut against the State of Mississippi.
Due to the NCAA’s decision not to count the 2020 season against any player’s eligibility in any sport, Robertson was fortunate enough to return to the UGA for a sixth season. He made it through spring with the team and people familiar with the situation told Dawgs247 that he had performed well during the five-week camp. It showed on G-day when he caught a 59-yard touchdown pass from Daniels and finished with four catches for 88 yards.
Robertson was fortunate enough to be a major factor in 2021, but Bulldog’s receiving body is expected to be deep enough to absorb the loss. The UGA suffered the transfer of LSU Arik Gilbert 10 days ago and he will play off. Bulldogs are coming back too Jermaine burton, Kearis jackson, and Ariane Smith of the 2020 team and true freshman wideout Adonai Mitchell was one of the G-Day MVPs of the game with seven catches for 105 yards and one scoring.
