Macaalay, bronze medalist at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, had a strong start to the tournament, sending Omar Laattar of the Netherlands 2-0.
Farzaliyev, however, took the lead in the rally ensuring this vital point late in the game.
Junna Tsukii, Jamie Lim, Joane Orbon, Ivan Agustin, Shariff Afif, Alwyn Batican, John Enrico Vasquez and Sarah Pangilinan are still in contention for the Olympic places and they must clinch a podium in Paris to qualify for Tokyo.
