Philippine Alex Eala and Russian Oksana Selekhmeteva compete in a Grand Slam final. But first, they will have to dethrone the current champions of the Roland-Garros junior double.
They will face in the semi-final Friday night the Italians Eleonora Alvisi and Lisa Pigato, who have just warmed up the crown they won last October.
Seeds Eala and Selekhmeteva took on the challenge of fifth seed Petra Marcinko of Croatia and Natalia Szabanin of Hungary (7-6 (7), 7-6 (5) on Thursday night.
They face off in court 14 starting at around 11 p.m. Manila time.
A win would give Eala a chance to win another doubles Grand Slam title, counting the Australian Open 2020 trophy with Priska Nugroho from Indonesia.
His partnership with Selekhmeteva had already reached the final, but it was among the pros when they finished runner-up at W25 Platja D’Aro in Spain last month.
Alvisi and Pigato eliminated Russian Tatiana Barkova and Belarusian Aliona Falei (6-3, 6-0) in the other quarter-finals on Friday.
Pigato, 18, and Alvisi, 16, who competed in this year’s seedless tournament, fended off Russians Maria Bondarenko and Diana Shnaider (7-6 (3), 6-4) to win Roland Garros last year.
