Emergency evacuations ordered amid industrial fire in Morris – NBC Chicago

Authorities said emergency evacuations were ordered in parts of the Morris suburb as an industrial fire broke out in the area on Tuesday.

The Grundy County Emergency Management Agency in IL has ordered anyone living in 900 Benton, Douglas or Armstrong streets as well as those living on East Street to “please vacate your residence now.”

“There is an industrial fire in the south,” the warning read.

Those in need of a place to go are urged to head to the Grundy County Administration Building located at 1320 Union St.

Coal City Mutual Aid Agency’s media officer Nick Doffler said the commercial structure fire started around noon in Building 900 of East Benton Street.

Initial reports indicated that the fire involved lithium batteries, but Dufler only said that there were hazardous materials in the building.

No casualties were reported as of Tuesday afternoon, Dufler said, but residents were told to avoid the area and evacuation orders were issued due to smoke.
