A man has been charged with the murder of Sergeant Matt Ratana, a Metropolitan Police officer, who was shot dead at Croydon Detention Center last September.
The Metropolitan Police said Luis de Zoisa, 23, of Park Road, Banstead, Surrey, was also charged with possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.
Mr. Rattana, 54, died of his injuries in the early hours of September 25 last year.
Since the accident, de Zoisa has remained in hospital in a stable, non-life-threatening condition and under police escort.
Scotland Yard said recent changes in his case have made the Royal Prosecution Service feel comfortable charging him in connection with the incident.
De Zoisa will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates Court on Wednesday via video link.
Mr. Ratana’s partner and son have been informed.
