Akash: India has successfully tested a new version of Akash missile | India news

A new version of Akash missile was successfully tested on Monday from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha, officials said.
They said the missile – Akash Prime – intercepted and destroyed an unmanned air target simulating an enemy aircraft in its first flight test.
Officials said the flight test took place around 4.30pm.
“Compared to the current Akash system, the Akash Prime is equipped with a local active RF seeker to improve accuracy. Other improvements also ensure more reliable performance in a low-temperature environment at higher altitudes,” said one of the officials.
The modified ground system was the current Akash weapon system for flight testing. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), the Indian Army, the Indian Air Force and other stakeholders on the successful trial of the Akash flagship missile.
He said the successful flight test proves DRDO’s competence in the design and development of global missile systems.
DRDO President J Satish Reddy also congratulated the team participating in the successful flight test of the missile.
He said that the Akash Prime system will enhance the confidence of the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force as the Akash system has already been introduced and is now being improved with more lethal missiles.
