American tourist has let everyone down because they can’t handle how many Londoners go to the pub before noon

It’s no secret that Londoners love a drink.

On any given day, at any given time, the capital’s pubs and clubs will be teeming with people enjoying a quick drink or five.

And curiously, the custom hasn’t been lost on the plucky American tourists who made the trek across the pond to see (or pint) some.

In fact, a Londoner amusedly shared a conversation between two Americans that sheds some light on residents’ idiosyncratic attitudes to drinking.

They said: “Overhead an American guy who spoke to his lady last week and said he has never seen a place where so many people drank before noon.

“I smiled, proud.”

The American’s discomfort clearly struck a chord with fellow Reddit users with people gushing over whether a culture of binge drinking was anything to be proud of.

One person agreed with the poster that five pints before noon is just as patriotic as the battle of Trafalgar.

They said, “I could almost hear the Land of Hope and Glory playing as I read this.”

“Alcoholism, always nice chatter”, laughed another.

Another made a well-known American joke about the British attitude to drinking: “This is an American joke: what do you call an Englishman who has had a bottle of wine? The designated driver.”
