Mumbai: In a major development, Maharashtra State Minister Jitendra Ohad on Thursday was arrested in connection with the kidnapping and assault case of Anant Karmos.
He appeared before the Thane Sessions Court and was released on bail.
The case relates to an incident that occurred last year when Anant Karmouz, 40, a resident of Thane, alleged that some policemen took him to Ohad Bungalow on the night of April 5, 2020, where he was brutally assaulted in the presence of the Minister. For allegedly posting a distorted picture of Ohad on Facebook.
A case was later registered at Vartak Nagar Police Station against Ohad for “abuse of the police”.
Ohad appeared in front of Vartak Nagar Police Station this evening regarding Record No. 120/2020 under Sections 365, 324, 143, 147, 148, 506 of the Indian Penal Code. His statement was recorded by Vartak Nagar Police and then submitted to Thane Court. The judge later released him on Rs 10,000 and 1 bail,” Thane Police said.
The BJP has demanded his “immediate removal” from the Uddhav Thackeray government in which he is the housing minister.
“BJP demands the dismissal of Minister Jitendra Ohad from the ministry,” BJP leader Kirit Somaya said on the social media platform Twitter.
If a minister begins to make law, there will be no law and order in the state. We demand that the first information report be registered and strict action taken. Maharashtra opposition leader and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis said last year that the way this person was taken from his house, taken to Ohad’s house and crushed was unacceptable.
