Armed police respond to reports of gunshots being heard in Locke Park in the Kingston area of Barnsley, just meters away from children’s play. Emergency services including multiple ambulances, air ambulance and police are responding to the incident.
The police went to the scene amid fears of a “shooting” this afternoon.
Footage from the scene shows a number of paramedics taking care of an injured man on the ground, while armed officers from South Yorkshire Police are seen scanning the vicinity.
At the moment, there is no official confirmation from South Yorkshire Police regarding the events.
However, Yorkshire Ambulance Service confirmed that they were on the scene monitoring reports of a person being shot.
A spokesman for Yorkshire Live said: “We received a call at 2.55pm with reports of a person who had been shot and was bleeding.
“We sent one ambulance, one rapid response vehicle, Yorkshire Air Ambulance was present and so was our hazardous area response team.”
A cordon was placed at the scene, and officers from the South Yorkshire Police Armed Response Team attended.
Some locals have taken to social media to share their shock of events in the park, where their children frequently play.
One person wrote: “Makes you not want to go anywhere!! Shooting in Locke Park despite thinking Barnsley needs the army to pay a visit I fear for my children when they grow up and start going out on their own.”
While another added: “I was there with a small child when all the police and ambulances showed up, and I’ve never seen such, and I went straight back to the car.”
This is a stormy story, more to follow
