The Bears’ run of bad luck continued in Detroit on Thanksgiving Day. Midway through the first half, the Bears lost Roquan Smith to a hamstring injury and he never returned. Head coach Matt Nagy had no update on the severity of Smith’s injury after the game.
Smith was one of the best players in defense for the Bears this year, not only from a production standpoint, but also as a leader. Heading into Thursday’s game, he was in the top five in the NFL in total tackles and was on pace to break his personal best of 139 tackles.
The defense was already without stars Khalil Mack and Akiem Hicks going into the game. Eddie Jackson and Eddie Goldman have also missed several games with their own injuries.
The foul was also dealt a blow. Marquise Goodwin came out of the game with a foot injury and was later ruled out. Goodwin was a big part of the increase in explosive plays, winning 186 yards on seven catches in the previous three weeks.
