Food & Friends Looking for Vacation Volunteers in DC Area – NBC4 Washington

Food & Friends continues its long Thanksgiving tradition of bringing holiday feasts to those who are sick and housebound.

Staff and about 200 volunteers worked early Thursday morning packing turkey, classic side dishes and pies. The goal is to deliver more than 4,000 meals by noon.

“We enjoy doing this work year round, but this day is especially special,” said Carrie Stoltzfus, executive director of Food & Friends. “It’s an opportunity for us to throw a party.”

Food & Friends provides nutritious meals to customers suffering from cancer, kidney disease and other ailments.

“We’re here to care for people with serious and chronic diseases,” Stoltzfus said.

Thanksgiving is a big day for Food & Friends, but they need help year-round, Stoltzfus said.
