Giants approaching deal with Alex Wood

5:22 p.m.: The parties are discussing a two-year deal that would pay Wood more than $10 million a year, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports (on Twitter).

5:15 PM: The Giants sign deal with free agent southpaw Alex Wood, reports FanSided’s Robert Murray (Twitter link). Should there be a deal, he would join 2021 rotation mate Anthony DeSclafanic upon his return to San Francisco, and the club was also associated with Alex Cobb this morning.

Wood signed with San Francisco for a $3MM guarantee last off-season and more than made up for the club’s rather small investment. The southpaw worked to a 3.83 ERA over 138 2/3 innings and 26 starts, taking on his heaviest workload since 2018.

More to come.
