MANILA, Philippines — Gilas Pilipinas forward LeBron Lopez will adapt to Team Fanning next season in the Overtime Elite League.
As first reported by ESPN, Lopez will play under former Macabi Tel Aviv assistant coach Tim Fanning in the league which also includes Team Gomes and Team Leitao with squads comprised of 16 to 20 years, including four and five star recruits. .
Dave Leitao, the former head coach of DePaul and Virginia, and Ryan Gomes, an eight-year retired NBA veteran, will lead their respective namesake teams.
“The most exciting part of our program is going to be playing against each other, getting under the lights of our building,” said Brandon Williams, OTE basketball operations manager. We are not tied to specific teams at the moment. The reality is, there just aren’t many teams that will look like us. This is the real challenge of planning.
OTE teams will play against prep and postgraduate teams including Sunrise Christian Academy, Dream City Christian, Hillcrest Prep, Putnam Science Academy and the five-star Vertical Academy program Mikey Williams.
OTE games will be played at the league’s premises in Atlanta, but will also include away games in North Carolina, Arizona, Ohio and Florida.
Lopez, who played for the Philippines in the Fiba Asia Cup qualifiers, will play alongside Amen Thompson, De’Vonte Cobbs, Kok Yat, Tyler Smith, Matt Bewley, Johned Walker, TJ Clark and Izan Almansa.
