Lorena González, San Diego Legislator: ‘No Cancer Left’ After Bilateral Mastectomy

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – Assemblywoman Lorena González announced on Twitter Monday that she returned home after undergoing a bilateral mastectomy and that “there is no cancer left.”

González, a Democrat from San Diego, described herself as “exhausted and in pain” and “hopeful.” She tweeted that she was “eternally grateful to the best husband / caregiver in the world who hasn’t left my side,” Nathan Fletcher, president of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors.

Gonzalez underwent surgery on Saturday “and the doctors said it was perfect,” Fletcher tweeted.

González announced on August 7 that she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which Fletcher described as stage 0, but that it was “also aggressive and positive for hormones” and required “aggressive treatment” because her mother developed breast cancer at age 44. and died at age. 62.
