Legendary Australian rock band Midnight Oil will be performing in Canberra next year on Stage 88. The Canberra performance was officially announced on Friday – the band will be performing in the national capital on Tuesday 19 April. It’s part of their 14-date Resist tour on the back of their new album of the same name. Publicity for the tour promises that the band will “play classic Midnight Oil songs from their repertoire while also showcasing some urgent new works.” The new album features the single Rising Seas which “handles the climate crisis in a typically uncompromising way”. Peter Garrett, former Labor member for Kingsford Smith, turns 69 three days before the show in Canberra. Next year will mark 45 years since the band was formed. “We hope everyone who hears this album and goes to one of the shows will be excited about the future of the planet and say, ‘Why stop now’?” said Garrett. “Midnight Oil is calling on governments to urgently take serious action to reduce carbon pollution. This tour includes best practices for emissions reductions and offsetting.” A portion of the proceeds will also be set aside to support organizations mitigating the existential threat of the climate crisis. The Canberra show is promoted as an “all ages licensed” performance. Each customer must have a ticket regardless of age, and visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult with their own ticket. Details for ticket sales:
