Ottawa Power Outage: Over 32,000 Hydro Ottawa Customers Without Power

OTTAWA — A power outage to the provincial grid is responsible for a major power outage in southwestern Ottawa.

Hydro Ottawa reported nearly 24 separate outages in Kanata, Barrhaven and Richmond, affecting more than 32,000 customers Monday afternoon.

The first reports came in around 1:45 pm. Estimated recovery time was 4 p.m. for most outages.

The utility blamed a loss of supply from the provincial grid. There was a separate outage at Hydro One in the same area at the same time.

Crews worked quickly to restore power to the affected residents.

At 2:15 p.m., just over 5,300 customers were without power.

Hydro One reports 2,200 customers without power

Hydro One also reported that more than 2,200 customers in the North Gower area, just south of the Hydro Ottawa border, had lost power around the same time.

The utility did not identify a cause for the failure.

By 2:15 pm, power was almost completely restored. Fewer than 20 customers were without power, with an estimated recovery time of 4:30 PM
