Potential landlord-tenant dispute leads to fire, injuries in Brooklyn, Canarsie

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — A potential dispute between landlord and tenant sparked a fire that injured a resident of a home in Canarsie, Brooklyn, and a neighbor.

A resident of the house on East 98th Street is said to have started the fire just after 11:10 p.m. on Thursday evening and fled.

A 32-year-old woman who lives there and a 69-year-old neighbor who may have rushed to help inhale smoke were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 27-year-old resident suspected of starting the fire fled, but later turned himself in.

No charges were immediately filed

The investigation is investigating whether the fire was started by a landlord-tenant.
