A minister of the Amanzimtoti NG Church was found dead with suffocating marks on her neck at her home in Amanzimtoti, south of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.

The 38-year-old woman has been identified as Liesel de Jäger, pastor at NG Kerk Suidkus.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman, Colonel Thembika Mbele, said Amanzimtoti police were investigating a murder case.

She said police were called to Dan Pinar Road in Athlone Park in Amanzimtoti at 7am on Wednesday.

“Upon arriving at the scene, police found a 38-year-old victim lying on the ground in her yard with strangulation marks on her neck,” she said.

Mbele added that none of her property was taken.

Meanwhile, in a tribute on Facebook, NG Kerk Suidkus asked to keep de Geiger’s husband, Werner and his children in prayer during this difficult time.

“It is with the most heartfelt and agonizing regret that we sadly have to inform you of Liesel’s passing. We ask that you please keep Werner, the children and the rest of the family in your prayers during this very difficult time,” read the tribute.

The church said that the family should be given privacy and that Reverend Werner should not be approached.
