Firefighters battling a blaze in Tarmigan, northeast of Silverthorne, set up fire containment lines Thursday as evacuees were allowed to go home, fire officials said.
Residents of the Hamilton Creek neighborhood and the Angler Mountain Ranch neighborhoods were allowed to return at 10 a.m., though they and residents of South 40 and the Angler Mountain Ranch and Tarmigan neighborhoods were still subject to pre-evacuation orders, according to a Summit Fire & EMS news release.
About 155 firefighters fired in the air and on the ground on Thursday. The fire, which broke out on Monday, burned 85 acres of dense mixed forest, including dead and deciduous trees, in the steep terrain.
Structures protection crews continued to patrol neighborhoods on Thursday. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Thunderstorms and nighttime snow showers are expected in the fire zone over the weekend, with temperatures dropping below zero, according to the National Weather Service.
