Who could face Manchester United and Man City in the Champions League draw of the last 16?

Manchester United and Manchester City have been given a rare luxury in the Champions League this season.

Indeed, not only have they sealed progress with a match over, the Manchester clubs have also qualified as group runners as the European league prepares for the knockout rounds.

The draw for the last 16 will take place on Monday, December 13 at 11 a.m. in Nyon, Switzerland.

Of course United and City will have to wait until February before getting back to work, although both must first complete their group stage schedules with ‘dead rubbers’ on December 7/8.

Liverpool, Ajax and Bayern Munich are the other teams that have already finished at the top of their respective stacks.

That means there is still only first place to play in Group D, Group G and Group H, although some clubs have made progress without confirming their final position.

Due to the closed nature of the last 16 draw, neither United nor City will face the next group winner.

After beating Villarreal and Atalanta in Group F, the Old Trafford giants will only go head-to-head with those teams in the quarter-finals. That is, if they make it this far, with one ready to be knocked out when they go down the hook in Bergamo next month.

Similarly, City dodge star-studded Paris Saint-Germain in the first knockout round.

In theory there will be seven potential opponents for United and City by the time the group stage is completed, but that will be reduced to six if Chelsea are snatched first place by rival Juventus from Group H.

All-English draw is not possible until the quarter-finals take place.

Here we take a look at possible opponents of United and City for the final day of play on December 7/8. Clubs marked with * have already qualified;
