Woman, 57, dies after being hit by bus at The Narrows on Darwin’s Stuart Highway

A woman has died after being hit by a bus on the Stuart Highway in Darwin.

NT police said the accident happened shortly before 5.30pm yesterday near a bus shelter in The Narrows, about 3 miles from the Darwin CBD.

The bus driver stopped immediately, NT police said.

The 57-year-old woman was found dead on the road.

Police said a crime scene had been established and remained in place on the inbound lane of the highway.

“Police are looking for witnesses, particularly drivers with dashcam footage, who were driving along Stuart Highway through The Narrows between 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM,” Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said.

That section of the multi-lane Stuart Highway in The Narrows has a 70 km/h speed limit.

Pedestrians must cross four lanes of traffic and a pedestrian island to reach bus shelters on either side of the highway.
